I'm on my way to France but should give you a bit of the flavor of England before I go, starting with some commonly used terms, so shall we:

Brilliant:...............This is used in a number of ways but not always as an affirmation.

Sample: "I lost my tickets" ... "Brilliant" or " I made you some coffee" ... "Brilliant"

As you would:......Meaning "As you would do something or other"

Sample: "I lost my tickets" ... "As you would" or " spilled my coffee" ..."As you would"

Steady on:...........Meaning "Steady on, stay the course, watch out, get a grip, hold on, don't panic.

Sample: "I lost my tickets" ... "Steady on" or "I feel a bit faint" .... "steady on"

Bit of a nutter:.....Meaning this guy is weird, can be both cautionary or affectionate

Sample:...."He's nice for an american but a bit of a nutter, lost his tickets you know"

Good Show:........May or may not mean "Good Show" inflection is everything

Sample:....."I lost my tickets" ... "Good Show" or "I found my tickets"... "Good Show"

Carry on:.............Meaning "Carry on, continue, go ahead,

Sample: "Think I'll have more dessert" ... "Carry on" or 'Shall I cut the cake now" ... "Carry on"

I Say:..................Meaning obscure, sort means What, or Really, or by the way or I say

There is of course a good bit more to this but when woven into proper conversation becomes at rather charming form of exchange and sure beats. "ah hun, yeah, ok, what ever and go for it"
